Dear members of the Tufts community,

I write to you all today with the sad news that Dr. Harris A. Berman, dean of the Tufts University School of Medicine from 2011-2019, passed away on Saturday, October 30 at the age of 83. Harris was a beloved member of the Tufts community and leaves behind a legacy of excellence and a reputation for being an innovator, a leader, and a wonderful, kind person. His passion for medicine and commitment to change helped make the world a better place wherever he went – as a Peace Corps physician in India, a trailblazer in the field of managed care, and as the highly respected dean of our medical school.

A story that sheds more light on the remarkable life that Harris led, and includes information on his funeral services, can be found on TuftsNow. Tufts is a better place today because of Harris’ leadership, and we’re grateful for all he did during his extraordinary life. We will miss him dearly and send our love to his family.

Best wishes,

Tony Monaco
