Dear colleagues,

We are delighted to announce this year’s recipients of the Tufts Distinction Awards, as well as the David J. Kahle Leadership Award recipient. Please join us in congratulating them and all of the staff and faculty who were nominated this year.

We are pleased to announce that this year marks the fourteenth year of the Tufts Distinction Awards program. This valued Tufts tradition celebrates outstanding faculty and staff accomplishments in areas outside of teaching and research.

These are all people whose service and dedication to the Tufts mission stand out so much that their colleagues felt inspired to write a nomination for them. After considerable deliberation, the Distinction Awards area sub-committees and the selection committee narrowed the pool of 330 nominees to choose this final group of the 17 individuals and four teams they believed most represented our community’s deepest values.

I hope that you will help me celebrate these extraordinary colleagues at the awards ceremony at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 17, 2021. This year, our ceremony will celebrate award recipients from both 2021 and 2020 and will combine both live and virtual elements. The in-person ceremony is for award recipients only and will be held at 51 Winthrop Street on the Medford campus. The event will be livestreamed for the Tufts community. More details will be announced soon.

The Tufts Distinction Awards present a unique opportunity to recognize the individuals and teams who make us proud to call this university home. Recipients reflect the true diversity of our university landscape, exemplify respect for wide-ranging perspectives, and dedicate themselves to meaningful inclusion. They lead and innovate with integrity and a collaborative spirit. Their service, their talent, and their accomplishments make a tremendous difference every day — not just for all of us who are so lucky to work with them, but for the university as a whole and its wider mission and vision.

We are also deeply grateful to those of you who submitted a nomination or contributed to one. Your willingness to celebrate others around you, to notice their impact, and to advocate for their recognition deserves acknowledgment. You make this program the joyful expression of appreciation for deserving colleagues that it has become.

After such an unusual year, we find ourselves especially looking forward to celebrating on November 17, 2021, when we will all come together as a community to honor the Tufts Distinction Award and David J. Kahle Leadership Award recipients. We hope you can join the virtual celebration.

The complete list of nominees and award recipients can be found on the Tufts Distinction Awards website.

Best wishes,

Anthony P. Monaco
