Dear colleagues,

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Caroline Genco as the next vice provost for research. Dr. Genco will continue the strong traditions of research leadership and excellence at Tufts.

Dr. Genco brings outstanding attributes to this critical role focusing on our research priorities at Tufts. She was selected for her exceptional commitment to Tufts and for her ability to grow the Office of the Vice Provost for Research (OVPR). OVPR provides high-quality services to our faculty and researchers by supporting and advancing Tufts’ research and scholarship enterprise.

Dr. Genco will assume the role of vice provost for research on October 1 after serving as chair of the department of immunology at Tufts School of Medicine since 2015. Her own research spans basic, translational, and global health specifically as it relates to bacterial pathogens, with a focus on the effects of chronic infections on systemic health, sexually transmitted infections, and oral and respiratory infectious diseases.

Prior to joining Tufts, Dr. Genco was a professor in the departments of medicine and microbiology, an affiliate faculty member in the department of biomedical engineering, and research director for the section of infectious diseases, all at Boston University.

She received her M.S. and Ph.D. in microbiology from the School of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Rochester, and her B.S. in biology from the State University of New York College at Fredonia.

We are confident Dr. Genco will advance the mission and goals of OVPR and be an invaluable resource and partner for faculty, students, and administrators in their shared commitment to research excellence at Tufts.

We are grateful to Dr. Simin Meydani for her outstanding service and leadership as Vice Provost for Research since 2016. Dr. Meydani will continue pursuing her scientific interests by returning to her lab at the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts (HNRCA) and her work at the Friedman School and School of Medicine.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Genco on her appointment.

Best wishes,

Anthony P. Monaco
