On Tuesday, I wrote to you to call attention to and condemn an incident involving the targeting of Jewish members of our community with flyers that were posted at Tufts Hillel and contained offensive images and symbols. Since that time, additional information has come to light regarding this incident that makes it clear that this was a deliberate anti-Semitic act that violates our community’s most basic standards for inclusion and tolerance.
I want to make clear we that are pursuing the investigation into this incident vigorously and will take all appropriate action.
Meanwhile, I have had an opportunity to meet with students at Tufts Hillel for a very meaningful and productive conversation. My office and others are working together with Tufts Hillel to explore ways to expand this conversation to the whole university community. We appreciate the collaboration of Rabbi Naftali Brawer, Neubauer Executive Director of Tufts Hillel, and his colleagues at this difficult time.
We will continue to support the Jewish members of our community affected by this incident of anti-Semitism, and to oppose any act of intolerance at our university.
