For eighteen years, Tufts University has honored some of our most inspiring students with the prestigious Presidential Award for Civic Life. These awards honor students from across the University for extraordinary achievement in civic leadership during their years at Tufts. We need your help to identify exceptional nominees from across all our undergraduate majors and all our graduate and professional schools.
I encourage you to be part of this important tradition by nominating students for a 2019 Presidential Award. You can submit your nominations online through Tisch College’s website at https://tischcollege.tufts.edu/content/2019-presidential-awards-civic-life-nomination-form. All nominations must be submitted by Friday, February 22, 2019. Award recipients will be honored at a special ceremony, among their families, friends and nominators, on April 18, 2019 at 8:30 a.m. in the Coolidge Room of Ballou Hall.
As you consider possible nominees, please keep in mind Tufts’ broad definition of civic leadership. Presidential Awards should recognize the diverse range of civic engagement and community service activities in which our students participate. For example, activities can include volunteer service in existing programs, informal kinds of service, electoral engagement, new and innovative student initiatives, and participation in community activities and democratic governance.
Educating our students for a lifetime of effective civic participation is a core value of Tufts, and instilling the importance of this ethos in our students is a vital charge. The Presidential Awards honor our commitment to civic engagement by celebrating the many forms of service Tufts University seeks to support.
Thank you for being part of this important tradition.
