We are writing with sadness today to let you know that we have learned of the unexpected passing of Jolie H. Dion-Gottfried, an undergraduate student in the School of Arts and Sciences who matriculated at Tufts with the Class of 2018.
Jo came to Tufts as a Questbridge Scholar and was a double major in American Studies and Education. She was an active and valued member of the Humanist Community at Tufts (HCAT), as well as a leader in the CAFE Pre-Orientation program. University Chaplain Greg McGonigle has shared that Jo’s warm smile, keen intellect, and caring heart were well known. Walker Bristol, Tufts’ Humanist Chaplain, has shared that she was a loyal friend who brightened many lives, listening to the experiences of others, working for social justice, and sharing her glittering spirit both on and off campus.
We know that Jo’s sudden passing will be felt deeply by many at Tufts. Our hearts go out to her friends, and to the faculty and staff she connected with during her time here. To her family, we offer our sincerest, most heartfelt condolences.
This loss comes at a time when many are away from campus. Whether you are in the Boston area this summer, with family and friends at home, or traveling, we encourage you to reach out to any University resources and supports that may be helpful:
We encourage you to reach out to any resources that may be helpful to you in the coming days and weeks. Thank you for joining us as we extend our deep compassion to Jo’s family.
