Nominations for the Tufts Distinction Awards for 2012 are now open, and I would like to invite and encourage you to submit nominations. The President’s Office and Human Resources together sponsor this university-wide program to celebrate outstanding staff and faculty accomplishments outside of teaching and research.
Advancing Tufts’ academic mission calls on the very best talents of all our faculty, staff, and students. The Distinction Awards are one important way we recognize exceptional contributions to this shared endeavor. They complement the recognition programs in place in many academic and administrative areas. In the years since they were first presented in 2008, the Tufts Distinction Awards have recognized almost 60 individuals and teams, and have become a valued tradition.
As in past years, the 2012 winners will be chosen by a selection committee of staff and faculty from across the university. I am grateful to the members of the selection committee for volunteering their time; their enthusiasm for the program was evident when we met recently to plan for this year’s awards cycle.
Any Tufts employee who qualifies for benefits is eligible to win a Distinction Award, and any member of the university community may submit a nomination. Full details and an online nomination form are available on the program website, http://distinctionawards.tufts.edu. Nomination forms are also available from the Human Resources offices on all three campuses. Nominations are open now; the deadline is February 29.
I welcome the opportunity to honor individuals and teams who do so much for Tufts. I hope that you do as well and that you will submit a nomination for this year’s Distinction Awards and then join us when we celebrate the winners at a university-wide ceremony on the Medford/Somerville campus on Tuesday, June 12, 2012.
