As Tufts’ Chief Academic Officer, the Provost and Senior Vice President plays a unique role in advancing our academic mission and strategic vision. In February 2018, Union College announced that Tufts Provost and Senior Vice President David R. Harris would become its 19th President; Deborah Kochevar, Dean of Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine since 2006, is currently serving as Tufts’ Provost and Senior Vice President ad interim. A search for the next permanent Provost and Senior Vice President of Tufts University is now underway.
Bárbara Brizuela, Professor of Education and Academic Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, is chairing the Search Committee; she is joined on the committee, listed below, by an outstanding group of faculty, staff, and students and one member of the Tufts Board of Trustees. The University is being assisted in the search by the executive search firm of Isaacson Miller. The position posting is currently under development.
Input from members of the university community will be critical to the success of the search and a comment form appears at the bottom of this page. Nominations are encouraged at any time in the search. The committee has been asked to keep its process, and any information about candidates, in strict confidence.
Town Hall Meetings
One of Search Committee's first tasks is to create opportunities for consultation with faculty and staff. To this end, four town hall meetings with the Search Committee have been scheduled. Faculty and staff are invited to participate in these town hall meetings and share their aspirations for the university, the critical challenges ahead, the qualities most important in Tufts' next Provost, and the standards for judging success. The town hall meeting schedule is as follows:
Medford/Somerville Campus: Tuesday, May 22, 9-10:30 am, Coolidge Room, Ballou Hall
Grafton Campus: Tuesday, May 22, 12-1:30 pm, Agnes Varis Lecture Hall, Hospital for Large Animals
Boston Campus: Tuesday, May 22, 3-4:30 pm, Behrakis Auditorium, Jaharis Family Center
