At Tufts University, our students and their families, our donors and research sponsors, and our trustees and advisors have placed their trust in us to uphold the highest standards of ethical and lawful conduct. To sustain this trust, the University has adopted specific Standards of Professional Conduct and Integrity applicable to all faculty and staff. These standards address fundamental expectations for interacting with one another, upholding confidentiality, avoiding conflicts of interest and working with vendors and contractors, using university resources, maintaining accuracy in financial reporting, complying with applicable laws and regulations, and conducting research in an ethical manner.
The Standards have been developed not because we suspect lapses in ethical and lawful conduct but because high standards are part of our culture. The University has a commendable record that is indicative of the dedication and loyalty of its employees and serves as an example to our students. The Standards are designed to communicate our shared values and the University’s commitment to upholding them. To make the relevant policies easy to find, the Standards of Professional Conduct and Integrityincludes links to the key university-wide policies that are in place to support them.
We must all strive to observe these standards as we carry out our academic and administrative responsibilities. Adhering to rigorous standards of professional conduct and integrity is essential to advancing Tufts’ mission to promote the creation and application of knowledge and bold ideas in an inclusive and collaborative environment.
