I am writing to inform you that two incidents of anti-Semitic graffiti on campus were reported to the Tufts University Police Department yesterday. The graffiti had been painted on a sign located adjacent to South Hall and on the wall of Lewis Hall. TUPD immediately began an investigation, working with the Somerville Police Department. Tufts Facilities Services removed the offensive graffiti last night.
We do not tolerate acts of anti-Semitism on our campus. They contradict our fundamental values of inclusion and violate the respect due to all members of our community. There is no place on our campus for such prejudice.
Let me assure you that we will undertake a thorough investigation of this matter. We do not know yet who may have been responsible, but we do know from the Somerville Police Department that another, similar graffiti incident, in the residential neighborhood near our campus, was reported to them earlier in the week. I ask that any member of our community who has knowledge of any of these incidents contact the Tufts University Police Department. We will provide the community with more information on this incident as it becomes available.
