Tufts Distinction Awards 2017: Call for Nominations

January 17, 2017

Dear Members of the Tufts Community:

We are excited to announce that we are entering our 10th year of the Tufts Distinction Awards program.  We have made a few changes to enhance the program this year and hope you will participate by submitting a nomination for a colleague you feel has made an extraordinary impact in the Tufts community.

Over the last decade, the Tufts Distinction Awards have honored well over 200 individuals and teams from among our staff and faculty for their exceptional contributions to Tufts. In the process, this unique awards program has become a valued university tradition. Sponsored by the President’s Office and Human Resources, the program celebrates outstanding staff and faculty accomplishments outside of teaching and research. Excellence and outstanding service are attributes that nominators have the opportunity of highlighting in their submissions.

We welcome nominations from all parts of the university and from across the full range of our activities and administration apart from teaching and research. Any Tufts University employee who qualifies for benefits is eligible to win a Distinction Award.

Distinction Awards can go to either individuals or teams. Team nominees may comprise either individuals who work together on a daily basis in a single area or unit, or individuals from different areas who have worked together on a specific long-term or short-term project.

Any member of the university community may submit a nomination. Full details, an online nomination form, and tips on how to write a winning submission are available on the program website at http://distinctionawards.tufts.edu/.  Nomination forms are also available upon request from Human Resources. The nomination deadline is Friday, February 10, 2017.

This year’s winners will be chosen by a selection committee of staff and faculty from across the university. I am grateful to the members of the selection committee for this service to their colleagues.

In March we will once again hold breakfasts on each campus to celebrate all of our nominees and nominators, alongside academic and administrative senior leaders and the Selection Committee. Information about the campus breakfasts will be shared with nominees and nominators shortly after the nomination period closes.

Helping to present the Distinction Awards is a highlight of each year for me. I hope you will mark your calendars for this year’s ceremony, which will take place on the Boston campus in the Behrakis Auditorium on Thursday, June 15, 2017, at 11:00am. You can help make sure we have another great ceremony this year by submitting a nomination for the 2017 Distinction Awards between now and February 10.

Best wishes,

Tony Monaco
