For over sixteen years, we have honored our students for achievement in community service and civic leadership with the Presidential Award for Citizenship and Public Service. Recently renamed the Presidential Award for Civic Life, these awards will continue to recognize some of our most inspiring undergraduate and graduate students from across the University. I invite you to be part of this tradition by nominating a student for a 2017 Presidential Award for Civic Life.
Education for active citizenship is a core value of Tufts, and instilling the importance of this ethos in our students is a vital charge. The Presidential Awards honor our commitment to civic engagement by recognizing outstanding student accomplishment and celebrating the diverse meanings of citizenship and public service that we seek to support at Tufts.
As you consider potential nominees, please keep in mind Tufts’ broad definition of civic leadership. Awards should recognize the full range of service activities in which our students excel. Examples of activities can include volunteer service in established programs, informal kinds of service, new student initiatives, and participation in community activities and governance.
We need your help to identify exceptional nominees from across all our undergraduate majors and all our graduate and professional schools. To make your nomination, fill out the online nomination form on Tisch College’s website at http://activecitizen.tufts.edu/presidential-award-2017/. All nominations must be submitted by Wednesday, February 15, 2017. Award recipients, their families and their nominators will be honored at a special ceremony on April 28, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. in the Coolidge Room of Ballou Hall.
Thank you for continued support of this important tradition at Tufts.
