An Incident Violating Community Values

May 4, 2016

Dear Members of the Tufts Community,

I am writing to inform you that an incident of anti-Black graffiti in an undergraduate residence hall was reported to the Tufts University Police Department yesterday. The graffiti had been painted in a restroom in Hill Hall. Tufts Facilities Services removed the offensive graffiti, TUPD immediately began an investigation, and Student Affairs staff have reached out to offer resources to affected individuals.

I hope all of you will join with me in condemning this incident of racism. As a university, we are committed to fundamental values of inclusion and to a campus environment in which all members of our community are respected. Acts of racism have no place at Tufts and will not be tolerated.

If you have any knowledge of this incident, I urge you to please contact the Tufts University Police Department. We will undertake a thorough investigation of this incident, and will share more information with the community as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

Tony Monaco
