Dear Members of the Tufts Community:
I am happy to announce that the time has now arrived to sign-up to volunteer with Tufts at this year’s Boston Marathon.
As in previous years, the Boston Athletic Association (BAA) has allotted Tufts an exclusive number of volunteer spots on Marathon Monday, April 16, 2012. This is a unique opportunity to participate in one of Boston’s greatest traditions. Tufts volunteers provide support at aid stations, cheering on runners from the University and around the world. All volunteers receive official Boston Marathon jackets and Tufts hats. For those needing transportation, we will provide buses from the Medford/Somerville campus to volunteer assignments.
In October, I expressed how impressed I was with the Tufts Marathon Team’s dedication to fund raising for the University and training for this epic run. I hope that you will join me on Marathon Monday as I put on my own Tufts volunteer hat and help support our team and the other dedicated runners.
Our participation as volunteers on Marathon Monday is crucial to the success of the event, for both the runners and the BAA. Because we have only a limited number of spots along the course, it is imperative that when you register to volunteer at the Marathon, you honor that commitment from start to finish. I ask that you please register to volunteer only if you are certain that this is a commitment you can honor on Monday, April 16, 2012. Volunteers are expected to participate in a full day of activities, beginning early in the morning through the late afternoon.
To register as a Tufts Volunteer, the Boston Athletic Association requires you to visit their web site at http://www.baa.org/races/boston-marathon/event-information/volunteering.aspx. Remember volunteer spots are limited, so registering early is the best way to ensure that you are part of the Tufts group on Marathon Monday. Veteran volunteers will receive a separate e-mail directly from the BAA which will contain your volunteer ID that you need to register. However, I encourage all volunteers to join one of the Tufts groups by going to the BAA website and following the instructions at the end of this message.
Volunteering is an exciting way to participate firsthand in the excitement of the Boston Marathon. As we approach Marathon Monday, all registered volunteers will receive an e-mail from Tufts regarding transportation options to assigned locations. If you are unable to register to volunteer through the BAA web site because all of the spots are taken, you can sign up for the Tufts waitlist by e-mailing Meaghan Comerford at email@example.com.

Deadline – Friday, February 10, 2012 at 5 PM
• Choose: ‘Register Here Online’,
• Choose: ‘First Time Volunteer’ if you are a new volunteer or enter your ‘Volunteer Loyalty Number’ and ‘Zip Code’ if you are a returning volunteer and would like to access your 2012 Application,
• Enter/Update Contact Info, NEXT,
• Choose: ‘I want to join an existing Volunteer Group’, NEXT,
• Choose the group you’d like from the drop down list and enter the corresponding password.
Your choices are:
• TuftsMile10 (password: JUMBOS)
• TuftsMile11 (password: JUMBOS)
• TuftsMile22 (password: JUMBOS)
(Passwords are not case sensitive.)
Follow the prompts to the end. These include any special instructions and verifying your age and a waiver from the BAA.
* Note: you have not successfully completed the application until you see an acknowledgement number. This number will appear on screen and a confirmation will be sent to you via e-mail.
