Tufts Distinction Awards 2009

January 21, 2009

Dear Members of the Tufts Community:

One of the highlights of the last academic year was the launch of the new Tufts Distinction Awards program. This program rewards the excellence of our staff and faculty in such critical areas as customer service and innovative business practices, while also offering an opportunity to recognize unsung heroes and those who excel in building bridges in the workplace. Last June, at our first annual awards ceremony, we honored 12 individuals and two teams, from all three campuses, for their extraordinary service to the university.

Recognizing accomplishments in areas other than teaching or research, the Tufts Distinction Awards complement the recognition programs in place in many academic and administrative areas. Any Tufts employee who qualifies for benefits is eligible. Winners will again be chosen by a selection committee of staff and faculty from across the university. I am grateful to the members of this year's selection committee for volunteering their time to help make the program a continued success.

Any member of the university community may submit a nomination. Full details and an online nomination form are available on the program web site, http://distinctionawards.tufts.edu. Nomination forms are also available from the Human Resources offices on all three campuses. Nominations are open now, and may be submitted at any time before March 6.

It is people who make a great university, and in these difficult times it is more important than ever to recognize those among us who make exceptional contributions to our community. The Tufts Distinction Awards offer an important opportunity to thank the talented, dedicated people who keep this university running so well. I hope you will submit a nomination for this year's Distinction Awards and will join us when we celebrate the winners at a university-wide ceremony on the Boston campus on Wednesday, June 3, 2009.

Sincerely yours,

Lawrence S. Bacow
President
