Bonus Days Off 12/26/08 and 1/2/09

Dear Staff Colleagues:

I know that many of you are now beginning to make plans for the winter holidays. We all look forward to time with family and friends after a busy fall semester. While hard work is the foundation of Tufts' excellence, we all need to balance work with time off for renewal.

Accordingly, I am pleased to announce that this year the university will give all staff both Friday, December 26, 2008, and Friday, January 2, 2009, as bonus days off, in addition to the previously announced university holidays on December 24 and 25 and January 1. These bonus days will apply to all benefits-eligible Tufts staff. The provision of necessary services will require some staff to work on December 26 and January 2. Supervisors will be in touch with those of you who need to come in those days, and will determine whether you can identify two other days to take as bonus days or will receive comparable pay. I appreciate your flexibility and understanding.

These are tough times for many families. We have all been affected by the turmoil in the markets and the general uncertainty that seems to hang over the economy. While I cannot do anything about the economy, I hope that these extra days off will make the upcoming holidays just a little bit more pleasant for each of you.
