Tufts Distinction AwardsFebruary 12, 2008 Dear Members of the Tufts Community: Our staff and faculty bring enormous talent and dedication to the work of the university. Thanks to their efforts, Tufts is a place of excellence where students thrive and new ideas flourish. It gives me great pleasure to announce the launch of the new Tufts Distinction Awards program, which will recognize the accomplishments of individuals and teams whose work represents the very best of Tufts. The Tufts Distinction Awards will reward excellence in such critical areas as customer service and innovative business practices. They will also offer an opportunity to recognize the many unsung heroes among us, and those who excel in building bridges in the workplace. The Tufts Distinction Awards will complement, not replace, the recognition programs already in place in many academic and administrative areas. Any Tufts employee who qualifies for benefits is eligible. Since these awards are not intended to recognize accomplishments in teaching or research, we anticipate that recipients will be chosen primarily but not exclusively from among the staff. Winners will be chosen by a selection committee of staff and faculty from across the university. I am grateful to the members of the selection committee for volunteering their time to help make the program a success. Any member of the university community may submit a nomination. Full details and nomination forms are available on the program Web site, http://distinctionawards.tufts.edu; nomination forms are also available from the Human Resources offices on all three campuses. Nominations are open now, and may be submitted at any time before March 31. I encourage you to nominate members of the Tufts staff and faculty whose work has impressed and inspired you. We will celebrate the winners of the first annual Distinction Awards at a university-wide ceremony on Tuesday, June 3. I hope you will join us there. It is people who make a great university. The Tufts Distinction Awards offer an important new opportunity to thank the talented, dedicated people who keep this university running so well. Sincerely yours, Lawrence S. Bacow |
