July 3 AnnouncementJune 5, 2006 Dear Colleagues: Two weeks ago at Commencement, we celebrated the end of a wonderfully successful academic year at Tufts. Thank you for the unique way that you contribute to our community. I am very proud of all that we accomplished at Tufts this year, and I am sure that each of you can recall special moments when your own work made an important difference to our students, faculty, staff, parents and alumni. A few things stand out in my mind from this past year: the way we all came together at the start of the year to help those afflicted by Hurricane Katrina; another successful Community Day; the opening of the new Boathouse on our Medford-Somerville campus; the great report the Medical School received from its reaccreditation team; scholarly honors earned by our students and faculty that are too numerous to list; the naming of the Tisch College; the creation of the Omidyar-Tufts Microfinance Fund; and of course another fabulous Commencement. I could go on. In recognition of the great year that we achieved together, I am declaring Monday, July 3, 2006 a special university holiday. It is a gift to you with appreciation for all that you do for Tufts, every day of the year. I hope that you will spend the time with family and friends and enjoy the four-day holiday weekend. While most of the University will be closed on July 3rd, it will be necessary to maintain operations in a few key areas. For those non-exempt employees who are covered by the Employee Handbook and are required to work, you will receive time and a half for hours worked on July 3rd, plus another day off or a day's pay at the normal rate. Thanks again for a terrific year and for your outstanding contributions to Tufts. Enjoy the extra day off! Best regards, -- Lawrence S. Bacow Note: Please send replies to bacow@tufts.edu |
